The fight against gambling machines in Itabua area, Embu has intensified as 195 machines worth Sh13 Million have been destroyed following the government ban on importation of the machines.

Led by Eastern regional Commissioner Wycliffe Ogallo, a team of security officers burned the machines as they declared to continue with the crackdown of the gambling machines and ensure they will arrest and prosecute those behind the machine business.

Speaking during the exercise at Kagonga dumping site in Embu town, Ogallo said, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the said machines at Itabua Village who include a Chinese and local woman identified as Christine Wawira.

Meanwhile, a similar exercise was carried out in west Pokot County where security officers also burnt gambling machines that were impounded. In response to area residents complains over increased school dropouts, police officers in west Pokot County declared crackdown on gambling machines.

As Makutano town residents witnessed the machines set ablaze, the area residents lauded the government’s effort to rid the community off the addictive and unproductive machines, saying gambling addicts spent a lot of money in gambling centers whereas children skipped school to gamble.

In the operation made successful by the area Chiefs and their assistants, parents have been urged to monitor their children as such dens could promote drug use and other illegal activities.
