She has defied all odds in life and turned a blind eye to the societal expectations which give the male gender full responsibility of being the sole breadwinner, leaving women with little or no opportunities for employment or businesses. Sarah Hezron has however ignored these expectations and ventured into a field which many ladies her age would not even consider.
Her job includes scrubbing mud and wiping-off dust on vehicles and motor bikes. She says she has been doing this for the past two years now and so far, she has tasted the see the fruits of her hard work and sacrifice.
Sarah revealed that before embarking on her current job, she found herself doing all kinds of jobs including masonry, hawking and several other menial jobs. Her life has been filled with ups and downs but her resilience has been the core factor for her survival. She is able to take her children to school through this car washing business, feed her family and also put some small savings aside.
She makes up to 4,000 shillings on a good day and at least 2,000 shillings at worst of days.
David Muriithi, a taxi driver who always brings his car to be cleaned by Sarah. He says that he is satisfied with the quality of service he gets from her.
However, Sarah revealed that like any other job, she has also encountered quiet a number of challenges like her men customers declining to pay her because of her gender.
