The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairperson, Wafula Chebukati has moved to court to challenge a plan by the opposition coalition, National Super Alliance (NASA) to have a parallel vote tallying centre.
Chebukati insists that the presidential results should be announced at the national tallying centre now want the ruling reviewed.
Chebukati further said that having parallel tallying centres is a recipe for chaos. However, the opposition maintained that, that was the surest way of ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
The court had initially honored the opposition’s plea and granted them permission to hold parallel vote tallying centres at the constituency level but the official announcement be made by the electoral body.
