Chief Justice David Maraga has requested the opposition coalition to help push other arms of government to provide more resources for a stronger and well equipped Judiciary.Maraga said this during a courtesy call by CORD principals led by Raila Odinga at the supreme court on Tuesday morning noting that it is an important aspect in its delivery of justice.
This, he says will help strengthen the financial independence of the Judiciary, an effort meant to mobilize financial support in the arm of government.
He acknowledged the commitment of political leadership in supporting the Judiciary.
Maraga noted this will help restore public confidence in the run up to the 2017 general polls.
Part of the discussions held between CJ Maraga and the CORD principals was how to accelerate judiciary reforms to help in service delivery.
Maraga said he was keen on fighting corruption.
Furthermore, Maraga said that the Supreme Court was ready to handle election petitions should the need arise.
In the spirit of the courtesy call by Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula, Maraga said he has plans of meeting the Speakers of Parliament in that effort.

The top court now has for the first time in four months a full quorum of seven judges.
