Fire has destroyed property of unknown value at Michuki Technical Training Institute Muranga County after a section of the hostel was razed down.
The incident occurred when students and staff were in for prayers ahead of the Kenya National Examinations Council examinations expected to kick off later this week.
The prayer session was interrupted by screams from outside where everyone rushed out only to find one of men’s hostels was up in flames.
Students made efforts to put out the fire and they were later joined by Murang’a county fire fighters
Speaking after the incident the head of the institution John Ndirangu termed the incident as a sad one.
Kangema deputy county commissioner William Lanaremo and Kangema Sub County Coordinator Kuria Thuita confirmed the incident and acknowledged the students’ efforts in containing the fire and asked well-wishers to come in and assist the institution and students as the loss was too huge.
Nothing was salvaged from the hostels including the students’ documents such as identity cards and academic certificates. No casualties were reported. Investigations are going on so as to what caused the fire.
