Issah Chipera won the Kwale governor ODM ticket during the primaries held in the county on Friday.

He won the nominations with7,085 votes against Speaker Sammy Ruwa’s 6,649 in a hotly contested poll.

Chipera is a former director of Plan International in Uganda.

Gereza Dena got 3,501 votes while Mwarapayo Mwachai garnered 3,448 votes in the results declared on Sunday.

Chipera will face off with incumbent Salim Mvurya, who defected from ODM to Jubilee last year, in the August 8 polls.

County returning officer Richard Amenya also declared Zuleikha Juma as the ODM women representative flag bearer.

She won with 11,320 votes against Fatuma Masito’s 8,677 whereas Issah Juma won the Senator ticket.

Issa, who is the late Senator Boy Juma Boy’s brother, garnered 15,307 votes beating Nicholas Zani who got 4,832.

Governor aspirants Mwarapayo, Gereza and Boga – eying the Msambweni MP seat, rejected the results.
