Drama unfolded at a village in Magarini sub county in Kilifi after area Member of Parliament Harrisson Kombe and an MCA drunk dirty water in public as a sign of solidarity with the locals facing water shortage. The leaders called on the national government to put in place steadfast measures to tackle the perennial crisis.
The crisis is a result of the coastal county not receiving rainfall since last year.
This week president Uhuru Kenyatta gave a directive to resolve the crisis and three cabinet secretaries visited the affected areas on a fact finding mission to curb the situation.
The Residents of Mulunguli village in Magarini subcounty, expressed their frustration during a tour of Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri.
Magarini is among the areas worst hit by famine and lack of water resources despite the fact that they are near River Sabaki. Kombe said his office is set to launch two key projects to boost water supply in the area.
Devolution CS Mwangi Kiunjuri also assured the resident the national government is working on plans to find lasting solution to the crisis.
Episodes of famine and hunger is not new to many residents of Kilifi county.
