NASA Leader Raila Odiga is set to host the opposition and citizens in a parallel Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kisumu County. The opposition says the rally will be held in memory of the victims of police brutality.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is also set to lead the national celebrations at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.
Mashujaa Day is a day set aside to celebrate and honour those who contributed towards the struggle for Kenya’s Independence or positively contributed to post-independence Kenya.
The NASA brigade will first attend a funeral service at Oginga Odinga Park in Bondo, Siaya for those who were killed during the anti-IEBC protests in various parts of the country.
The team will later make its way to Kisumu to mark the celebrations at Ogango Grounds.
During the two events, some of the people injured during protests and bereaved families will speak.
On Tuesday, this week Raila had said that NASA had suspended its protests in honour of those who were killed.
Police shot dead three youths in Bondo, Siaya County, and a Vihiga High School student was killed in Kisumu during the protests to push for electoral reforms.
Scores of other youths, including children and an elderly woman, were injured in Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya counties.
