The Orange Democratic Party National Executive Council cracked its whip on rebel politicians who publicly defected from the party.The organ met today at the Bomas of Kenya to ratify the expulsion and with the current corruption alarm ringing loudly the subject took dominance in the meeting.
Among those that have been booted out include Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya, Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba, and Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro.
The other former ODM stalwarts who have been expelled are; Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, Mathare MP Steven Kariuki, Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima, Sirisia MP John Waluke, Kwale woman representative Zainab Chidzuga, Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama and Viwandani MCA Samwel Nyang’wara.
The committee pardoned Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani and Igembe Central MP Cyprian Kubai.
Tigania East Mpuru Aburi, Kilifi South Mustafa Idd, Kilifi North Gideon Mung’aro, North Horr Chachu Ganya and Karachuonyo James Rege are expected to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee on Thursday.
ODM argues the leaders betrayed their trust and should seek a fresh mandate from the voters through by-elections.
On matters of electoral reforms, former premier Raila Odinga asked the IEBC commissioners led by chair Issack Hassan to vacate office and give way for proper planning of the next elections.
Raila also called out to senators asking them to demand answers from the World Bank on the alleged loss of Ksh 5 billion at the Ministry of Health.
Raila said the this was just another attempt at undermining the constitution for the benfit of a few individuals.
Raila further accused President Kenyatta of protecting government officials implicated in corrupt scandals.
The ODM party while endorsing Raila Odinga as CORD’s presidential flag bearer adopted ‘Mbele Pamoja’ as their new party slogan.
