NASA leader Raila Odinga has dismissed claims he was angling for political power under his arrangement with President Uhuru Kenyatta. Odinga has however said his intention is to create a stable nation is the sole reason for the building bridges initiative. A section of politicians have accused Odinga of using the popular handshake for political mileage. This as president Kenyatta made it clear the political cooperation would continue despite the opposition.
Since his truce with president Uhuru Kenyatta Raila Odinga has spoken for the first time about the famous handshake and dismissed claims he was angling Raila for political power under his arrangement with the President, saying creating a stable nation is the sole reason for the Building the Bridges Initiative.
While speaking during his address at Cambridge University in Britain Odinga noted that said the differences were becoming too entrenched yet no two Kenyans can agree on the origins of the differences and what they portend.
The NASA leader however expressed his disappointment that the famous handshake is at stake following accusations from certain politicians and seemingly targeting deputy president William Ruto’s allies who have accused Odinga of using the handshake for 2022 repositioning.
He has however, expressed confidence that his deal with Uhuru would herald a new dawn for Kenyans and be a worthy example for other African nations to emulate
The former PM said he and Uhuru are committed to address historical issues that have created bitter divisions saying they examined the country’s historical issues and arrived at an understanding that they swallow their pride for the sake of future generations.
Those opposed to the handshake also received a dress down from President Kenyatta himself during the requiem mass of Kenneth Matiba.
Odinga defended his move saying they agreed with Uhuru that time to reflect on Kenya’s performance in the search of justice, unity, peace, liberty and prosperity has come.
