The national government has opened the first regional mining office in Malindi to support mining companies and community groups interested in mineral activities in the region.
Mining cabinet secretary Dan Kazungu said the move shall create opportunities for local communities and mining companies to engage in the sector.
In a bid to boost the mining expansion across the country, the government has opened a regional office in Malindi.
The interim Office is expected to serve the Northern counties of Kilifi, Tanariver, Lamu and Garrisa reportedly rich in minerals.

The CS said multi billion international Investment Company Dangote is already keen to do exploration of limestone in Malindi.
He said the region also has Manganese, iron ore, gypsum and Titanium deposits and through the office it will be easier for Mining investors apply for licenses right on the ground .
With the new office Kazungu said the ministry shall set up licensing committees, the chairman will be appointed by the Governor and shall have two representatives from Mining companies.
The Ministry intends to do an aerial mapping of minerals from the ocean to all other areas in the country to establish the minerals available.
