Police in Ruiru have recovered three AK47 rifles and 178 bullets that had been hidden under a bridge in Thome village and arrested one suspect in connection to the discovery.
Kiambu County Commissioner Alex Ole Nkoyo said the police nabbed the deadly weapons after getting a tip-off from the members of the public and suspected the loaded weapons were to be used in committing serious criminal activities in Kiambu and Nairobi counties.
Kiambu commissioner further said the police have been trailing the suspect for the last two weeks though they had not managed to make any arrests since they kept on changing their hideouts.
The police are still on the hunt for other suspects who include an ex-police officer attached with the Recce squad who was dismissed from the force in 2014.
The suspect was arrested in Ruiru town but the Police declined to give out the name of the suspect to avoid jeopardizing ongoing investigations.
The discovery of the weapons come hot on the heels of a report that revealed Kiambu county was among counties with the highest level of insecurity in the country.
