Turkana South Member of Parliament, James Lomenen, has accused road contractors constructing the 306 kilometer road from Kitale-Lodwar highway of doing a shoddy job even after funds have been poured.

Speaking in Turkana, at the Kainuk Bridge where he was paying a site visit on the construction of a new bridge after it collapsed, Lomenen said some contractors have not been adhering their job as per their agreement.

He further asked the contractor who is constructing new Kainuk Bridge to employ locals from Kainuk area in the company to ensure local people benefit.

Lomenen echoed reports that the contractor had not hired locals something which led to various protests against the construction company.

In addition to that, the government should start evaluating roads that have been constructed from Kainuk to Lokichar and should revoke tenders to contractors who have done shoddy jobs for, some sections of the road have already developed potholes yet the road has not even been officially launched.

The Lodwar-Kitale highway which is a 306kms stretch has 5 contractors, hired by the government, to work on it to ensure that it is tarmacked.
