The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations has suspended Zanzibar from all activities in the region until they pay a fine of 1.5 million shillings for fielding overage players at the ongoing CECAFA under-17 championship in Burundi.
Zanzibar was found to have fielded twelve overage players for their opening match against Sudan on Sunday with the game having failed to take off due to the protest.
According to the rules, only players born after 2002 are allowed to participate.
At the same time, three over-age Ethiopian players have been expelled from the tournament.
The Ethiopian football federation was also fined approximately five hundred thousand shillings as an approximate cost on air tickets, accommodation and meals during their time spent in Burundi.
